About this page
Built for adult learners
TryEnglish is for adults improving everyday and workplace English, including speakers of Indian English and other world Englishes. The aim is clear, confident communication — not erasing your accent. Where a phrase is common in one region but unclear elsewhere (for example "do the needful" or "prepone"), lessons explain the difference as a choice of register, not as a mistake.
What is in the starter pack
The starter pack v1 has 15 grammar lessons with correct and incorrect examples, more than 300 objective exercises with accepted answer variants, over 200 vocabulary and collocation cards, 12 graded reading passages, 12 workplace scenarios with role-play choices, dictation sets and sound-contrast practice. It is self-authored and has not yet been reviewed by an independent teacher; we label it that way everywhere.
Private by design
There is no account and no server that receives your answers, writing or voice. Progress is saved in your browser’s IndexedDB storage. Recordings stay in memory unless you choose to save them, and you can export or delete everything from the Offline lessons page.
Questions
Is TryEnglish free?
Yes. The lessons and tools are free and need no signup. Your history and drafts always stay yours and can be exported.
Will this give me a CEFR level or exam score?
No. The optional self-check is 12 questions and can only suggest where to start. TryEnglish never claims to measure CEFR level, fluency or exam readiness.
Does it work offline?
After your first visit the lessons are cached by your browser, so most practice works without a connection. Listening uses a voice installed on your device, if there is one.
Do I need a microphone?
No. Every activity has a non-audio path. A microphone lets you record and replay yourself; nothing is uploaded.
