Recognition and production

Cards can show the word and ask for its meaning (recognition), or show the meaning and an example with a gap and ask you to produce the word (production). Production is harder and builds active vocabulary.

The review schedule (te-srs-1)

After each card you grade yourself: Again, Hard, Good or Easy. Good gives 1 day, then 3 days, then the previous interval times an ease factor (starting at 2.5). Again counts a lapse, lowers the ease by 0.2 and brings the card back tomorrow. There is no random fuzz, so the schedule can be replayed exactly. You can undo your last grade, reset a card, or suspend it.

Questions

How many new words should I learn each day?

The plan suggests 5 to 10 depending on your time. Reviews grow with every new card, so a small steady number works best.

Can I add my own words?

Yes. The phrasebook stores your own phrases with tags and pronunciation notes, and you can add any of them to your reviews. You can also paste a list to import.

Is there audio for each word?

Only if your device has an installed English voice that reports itself as local. Otherwise, cards are text-only — we never send words to an online voice service.
